Sometimes the first step toward yourself is typed into a search bar.

Starting from scratch isn’t cute or trendy. It’s what happens when you stop chasing someone else’s dream and start choosing yourself. It’s what happens when you finally choose what’s best for you, not what looks good on paper. Not what keeps you likable. Not what earns you a seat at the exhausting potluck of transactional relationships.

For most of my life, I believed I was chasing a dream...the house, the job, the picket fence, the family, the grandkids tumbling through a sunny backyard. It turns out, I was pursuing someone else's dream, and paying for it with my soul.

There’s a strange kind of silence when the dream finally collapses. It’s not screaming. It’s not dramatic. It’s the soft click of a door closing deep inside you. A door you don’t even remember opening. Starting from scratch means honoring that silence, refusing to earn love like a trained dog, and building a life that feels like home, even if it looks nothing like what they envisioned for me. That’s enough.

The good news? I’m not too late. I’m right on time. The wreckage of the past isn’t proof that I failed. It’s proof that I’m free.
