I was 55 years old when cannabis finally became relevant in my life. I had never tried it, but I had always been curious. Why was it demonized? Why did some people swear by its benefits while others dismissed it as something for lazy, unmotivated stoners?
I grew up in a conservative, black-and-white thinking community—a town where alcohol wasn’t even sold, and anything outside of “acceptable” behavior was labeled weird, rebellious, or just plain sinful. Cannabis was lumped into that category, so I never questioned it.
Until I had to.
When Cannabis Became Personal
My former husband was diagnosed with oropharyngeal cancer, a form of throat cancer that required grueling surgeries, chemotherapy, and radiation. The treatments were brutal, and the worst part?
He couldn’t eat, swallow, or find relief from the pain.
Pharmaceutical painkillers weren’t an option. We tried everything—but nothing worked.
That’s when I turned to cannabis.

I didn’t take this lightly. I wanted to make sure I was doing everything legally, ethically, and correctly. I applied for a medical cannabis card for him and one for myself as his caregiver. Then I started researching.
At first, I only knew the basics—Indica makes you sleepy, Sativa gives you energy.
But as I kept reading, I realized cannabis was far more complex than I had ever imagined.
Certain strains could stimulate appetite—exactly what he needed when he had no desire to eat.
Others helped him relax enough to swallow food without choking.
High-potency oils like Rick Simpson Oil (RSO) helped him sleep through the discomfort.
I saw firsthand how cannabis could change someone’s quality of life—and yet, the stigma surrounding it was still so strong.
Breaking the Stigma & Learning the Science

The more I saw cannabis working, the more I questioned why it had been demonized for so long. The more I researched, the more I uncovered its deeply misunderstood history—how propaganda, politics, and fear had shaped public opinion.
At the same time, I wasn’t just interested in the effects of cannabis—I wanted to understand how it worked.
So, I started learning everything.
The science behind cannabinoids and terpenes—what makes one strain different from another?
The history of prohibition and criminalization—who was really being targeted?
How to grow cannabis—literally from the ground up.
And that’s where it clicked for me.
In many ways, cannabis was like baking. I’ve spent a lot of time making pies, working with flour, butter, and patience—turning raw ingredients into something meaningful.
And like my baking, cannabis requires understanding, balance, and care. The right mix of light, soil, and timing could make all the difference. But just like with baking, not everyone sees the process. They just see the finished product—and judge it accordingly.
But cannabis—like any craft—is about humility, curiosity, and growth.
Cannabis University: Why I’m Starting This Blog
The problem with cannabis education is that most people only hear two extremes:
The stoner stereotype—lazy, unmotivated, unprofessional
The fear-based narrative—gateway drug, dangerous, something to hide.
Neither one tells the full story.
I started Cannabis University because people deserve better information.
• People deserve to understand cannabis without stigma.
• People deserve access to real education—not just corporate marketing.
• People deserve a place where curiosity isn’t met with judgment.
This blog will cover everything I’ve learned and continue to learn—cannabis science, history, legal insights, industry trends, DIY growing, and dispensary education. Some posts will be structured and research-based, others will be personal experiences and stories.
But at its core, Cannabis University is about breaking stigma through knowledge.
I’ve built my life around the idea of starting from scratch.
• With baking, you turn raw ingredients into something meaningful.
• With cannabis, you turn knowledge into empowerment.
• With life itself, you rebuild from the ground up, again and again.
So, if you’re curious about cannabis—whether for medical use, personal exploration, or just understanding the truth—welcome.
More to come.
Let’s Start from Scratch.
